Imam Condemns Deadly San Diego Mosque Shooting as “Extremely Outrageous”

(MENAFN) An American imam has strongly condemned a shooting at an Islamic center in San Diego, California, calling the incident “extremely outrageous” after five people were killed on Monday, according to reports.

Taha Hassane, director of the Islamic Center of San Diego where the attack took place, told reporters that the community had never faced such a tragedy before.

“We have never experienced a tragedy like this before,” he said.

Authorities said three victims and two suspected attackers were killed in the incident at the center.

The imam expressed concern for the broader community and stressed that all places of worship, including mosques, should be protected at all times.

“It is extremely outrageous to target a place of worship. Our Islamic center is a place of worship. People come to the Islamic center to pray, to celebrate, to learn, not only Muslims, but we have people from all walks of life,” he said.

He added that earlier the same day, the center had hosted visitors from outside the Muslim community.

“So this (attack) is something that we never expected,” the imam added.
