Baykar’s Turkish drones strengthen security across Africa
The company took part in the Bamako Expo Fair (BAMEX’25) in Mali’s capital, Bamako, where—for the first time—the exhibition featured booths exclusively representing Turkish firms. At the event, Baykar showcased scale models of its flagship UAVs, including the Bayraktar TB2, Akinci, TB3, and Kizilelma, while presenting their technological features and operational capabilities to visiting international delegations.
Baykar has gained wide recognition across Africa for its Bayraktar TB2 combat drone, which is favored by many nations for its ability to conduct intelligence, surveillance, and precision strike missions. The continent has emerged as one of Baykar’s fastest-growing markets, where its UAVs are employed in operations against groups posing threats to national security—serving as a significant deterrent force.
Countries such as Mali, Morocco, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Libya, Burkina Faso, Togo, Niger, Djibouti, Somalia, Rwanda, and Kenya are among those that have incorporated Baykar’s domestically produced drones into their defense systems. In addition to UAVs, other defense industry payloads developed in Türkiye are also being exported alongside them.
Since launching its UAV research and development program in 2003, Baykar has derived approximately 83% of its total revenue from exports. The company now ranks among Türkiye’s top 10 exporters across all industries and leads the national defense and aerospace sectors in export performance.
Having established itself as the world’s largest exporter of armed UAVs, Baykar has played a key role in positioning Türkiye as a global leader in drone technology. Over 90% of its recent contracts have been international, and the company has signed export agreements with 37 countries so far.
