Man kills two individuals, runs car into crowd in Manchester
(MENAFN) At least two people were killed and three others seriously injured when a man drove a car into pedestrians and then carried out a stabbing outside a synagogue in Crumpsall, Greater Manchester, according to local authorities.
Police said they were alerted at 9:31 a.m. local time by a witness who reported seeing a car driven toward pedestrians and a man being stabbed.
Footage circulated on social media shows officers aiming their weapons at a person lying on the ground outside the synagogue, instructing bystanders to “get back” and “move on.” One onlooker is heard saying the suspect “has got a bomb on him.”
The individual on the ground begins to rise when a gunshot is fired, causing them to collapse. Authorities have confirmed the suspect was shot and is believed to be dead.
A vehicle labeled “Bomb Disposal” arrived at the scene, though officials have not confirmed the presence of explosives.
British Prime Minister Kier Starmer has cut short his attendance at a summit in Denmark and announced that additional police personnel are being deployed to synagogues across the country.
